Compilation of male idols with the most songs registered with KOMCA (see the previous female idol list here). This list's criteria required that at least 10 of the songs be self compositions, not just lyric writing. For example, an idol with 50 registered songs wouldn't be on the list if he didn't compose at least 10 out of those 50 songs.

ReplyDeleteIt's no secret that he co-composes most of his work, but seriously does it take away from his achievement? No. Every person has their own process of creating songs and GD's is to team up with another most of the time. People tend to forget that he's not just a songwriter but a full time idol, he can't just camp in the studio for weeks at a time on his own.

ReplyDeleteactually, GD did cocompose Lies, with Brave Brothers, I believe. And to answer the anon's question, he has not written a song all by himself that we have heard. There's an oldish interview (around 2009, I believe) that addresses this, in which YG says that how they usually write is Teddy or someone makes an instrumental and GD writes the lyrics and melody to it. I don't know if he writes differently now, but that's how he did it back then. But I don't think the anon meant harm, he/she was just pointing something out.

It's usually a back and forth process where some of their songs just come out from random discussions or boredom. And he did self compose lies by himself but it was arranged by brave brothers. He's never arranged a song by himself.

If they're listed, they had more to do with the lyrics than just writing their verse (unless the verse is a significant portion of the song, of course). For instance, Junhyung writes almost all of his raps for BEAST's songs and his features but he's not credited by KOMCA for every song (ex. for "Beautiful" or "Shock").
ReplyDeleteA way to tell how much a person worked on a song is to look at the credits. If their name is listed first it means they probably did the most work on the song. It's why when u look at Big Bang songs u sometimes see gd's name first on the lyric portion or the production portion and on other songs it's teddy who is listed first of choice.

ReplyDeleteHihi, Yoochun and Junsu complained that JJ wrote In Heaven with too many high notes and they had problems to sing it. They tried to push him to change his mind but he didn´t want to and at the end, they listened to him and recorded it in the way JJ wanted.

Think about the Billboard.......if you do a feature on someone's song and it goes to #1, you are also credited with it, so it's as much a #1 song under your belt, as it is another person's. Rihanna was featured on T.I.'s "Live your Life" and Eminem's "The Way You Lie," which are both number ones. They're also counted as number ones for her.
ReplyDeleteThe point I'm trying to make is that in music when songs are shared in composition, lyrics, or features, it is credited to everyone involved. It is not given to only one person. So the compositions count as much for GD as they do for his co-composers.

Yoochun doesn't like producing something just when he wants to. He has to experience it...let it happen + let it pass and etc., then he'll make the song. (from a YC interview) Yoochun might be able to release a solo album now, but JYJ will be releasing a new album within 3-5 months...Not really an ideal situation tbh.

ReplyDeleteI was a bit surprised to see Eric up there. That's Shinhwa's Eric right? In order to make the list he would have to have helped compose some of them, but I would've thought it stuck mostly to writing lyrics or raps. Interesting.
